Burritos and September 11th
For many of us who live in New York City, we're tired of September 11th being used as an excuse to justify just about everything.
Invade another country? Sure. Remember September 11th!
Take away our civil liberties? Sure. Remember September 11th!
Put innocent people in jail? Sure. September 11th!
The following is a true story, folks, because I could never make this up.
I was in Chicago this summer, and a small burrito place by my hotel had a very nice selection. After reading the menu, and being a New Yorker, my first question was
"Do you deliver?"
The manager answered, "No, not since the tragedy."
My mind raced. I thought, what kind of tragedy? A violent storm? Or, maybe the last delivery guy was murdered ?!
I knew I was stepping over the boundary when I asked, "What tragedy?"
"Oh, September 11th", he answered, matter-of-factly. Oh yes, I thought, THE tragedy.
So, because of September 11th, a little burrito place in Chicago no longer delivers. They still deliver burritos here in New York, thank God.
At that point, I just gave up and walked out.
Sadly, September 11th has changed our country - in ways that we will never fully understand nor appreciate.
